10GB Microdrive Prototype unveiled in Japan
Researchers from the University of Tohoku (Japan)
have shown a MicroDrive prototype that has a capacity of 10GB. They have been
able to reach this capacity by using the "perpendicular technology". Today's
largest MicroDrive is 6GB big.
Although it has the same format as Compact Flash
cards, this is really a tiny hard drive. Capacity is greater than flash memory
however it is more sensitive to shocks and heat than its flash
counterparts.
