The worldwide mass scanner market continues to
evolve as digital imaging vendors vie for consumer mindshare. Today’s
challenge is to continue differentiating single-function scanners from low-cost,
multifunctional, inkjet based all-in-one devices. The combined functionality and
rock-bottom price points offered by all-in-one vendors have recently made the
price/performance of single-function scanners less attractive to prospective
buyers, particularly in North America. The adoption of digital cameras in North
America has also shifted the predominant use of scanners away from capturing and
sharing photos.
