Press Release: The HP Photosmart 385 Colour Photo Printer – a Lightweight, Stylish Portable Printer Ideal for any Social Occasion

London, UK, July 1st, 2005 - HP (NYSE, Nasdaq: HPQ) today announced the launch of the HP Photosmart 385 Compact Photo Printer, a take-anywhere photo printer that combines almost unlimited connectivity options with a host of impressive, on-board tools for selecting, editing and printing photos in either rich colour or professional quality black and white.

This latest addition to HP’s fast growing range of portable printing solutions is designed for maximum portability and ease of use. Compact and weighing little more than 1.4 kg it comes with a standard power cable for use at home, at friends’ houses, or when away on holiday. An optional in-car adapter is available for travelling and for complete freedom, whilst an optional rechargeable battery lets users print up to 75 photos between charges, whether indoors or out.
For enhanced freedom, a bank of card slots allow direct printing from all major memory cards1, while the front USB allows the whole family to print from any PictBridge-enabled camera and most USB flash drives. The HP Photosmart 385 Compact Photo Printer also comes complete with its own Bluetooth adapter for easy direct printing from Bluetooth enabled camera phones. Or it can be easily connected to a PC like any other printer.
A large 6.4 cm built-in LCD flips up to allow easy selection of photos, while in-printer features deliver intuitive access to creative options such as zoom, crop, add frames, rotate and brightness control – all of which can be previewed on the clear colour screen. In addition, HP Real Life technologies such as red-eye removal and adaptive lighting can be used to improve results further still – all without using a PC.
Photo print quality is excellent, using the HP 343 Tri-Colour Inkjet Print Cartridge with HP Vivera Inks providing vivid, long lasting true-to-life colour that will resist fading for generations2. Budding photographers wanting to experiment black and white prints can swap the tri-colour cartridge with the optional HP 100 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge to produce black and white photos comparable with studio-developed prints.
Photo-quality printing doesn’t mean having to wait around, with standard snapshot-sized 10 x 15 cm photos printing in less than a minute. In addition, this supremely versatile printer can also be used with landscape format 10 x 30 cm photo paper. Keen photographers will benefit from different HP Photo Packs for best value photo printing.
The HP Photosmart 385 Compact Photo Printer is available from August 2005 at a recommended street price of £199.99.
1Memory card slots support CompactFlash, IBM Microdrive, Memory Stick®, Memory Stick Duo® (with adapter), Mini SD (with adapter), Secure Digital/MultiMedia Card and XD-Picture Card™.
