Press Release: The First Portable Printer to Store up to 1,000 Photos / Store, edit and print photos from any location - without a PC - with the HP Photosmart 475 Compact Photo Printer

London, UK, July 1st, 2005 - HP today announced the launch of the HP Photosmart 475 Compact Photo Printer, the most advanced compact photo printer in the industry.  This stylish new device can store up to a thousand photos internally, eliminating the need to store images on a PC or camera.  Photos can be printed in high quality colour, as well as black and white, viewed on a TV as a photo album by using the included remote control or directly saved to CD or DVD by connecting an external CD/DVD writer – all without using a PC.

With this ultimate travelling companion, HP takes a step forward in portable printing technology.  Users can simply insert their memory card to transfer, print and store all of their images faster and more conveniently than ever before.  Featuring 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of internal memory, files can be stored on the printer and organised chronologically as well as by event.  Users can access their images quickly and conveniently, making this printer the perfect portable photo album.
The HP Photosmart 475 Compact Photo Printer is the first portable printer to also print on large borderless sizes from 13 x 18 cm to panorama size10 x 30 cm.  This means users can print larger versions of their favourite panorama shots, whether it’s the Grand Canyon or Paris’ Arc de Triomphe.
Extremely lightweight and featuring a built-in handle, the HP Photosmart 475 Compact Photo Printer is perfect to use anywhere.  This versatile printer also allows photography enthusiasts to print directly from their memory cards or USB flash drives via the front loading slots.  Those who need to free up space on their memory card or PC hard drive can use the printer’s 1.5 GB of memory to store images for printing at a more convenient time.  Users with PictBridge-enabled cameras or camera phones utilising Bluetooth1, can transfer images quickly and easily to the printer, so printing is simple to achieve anywhere.
A large 6.4 cm built-in LCD flip up screen facilitates easy selection and editing of photos.  The in-printer tools allow users to edit their photos with zoom, crop, rotate and brightness controls which can then be previewed on the colour screen. In addition, HP Real Life technologies such as red-eye removal and Adaptive Lighting can be used to further enhance results, all without a PC.
The printer conveniently comes with a cable and remote control for connection to a TV.  This connection enables users to easily view, edit and browse photos and video clips on the TV screen. In addition, users can also create slide shows made up of their favourite photos, which can be saved to the internal memory and replayed.
To complete this total portable experience, users can print high quality, vivid photos that resist fading for generations2, using the HP 344 Tri-Colour Inkjet Print Cartridge with HP Vivera Inks.  For professional quality black and white photos, photography enthusiasts can capture beautiful landscapes and historic sites by swapping to the optional HP 100 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge.
Using HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, which is specially designed to work with HP printers and inkjet print cartridges to deliver the best possible results, 10 x 15 cm photos can be printed in just under a minute.

The HP Photosmart 475 is available from August 2005 at a recommended street price of £249.99.
