Press Release: Distribution Center For Digital Imaging Products Planned
For Plainfield
Epson America, Inc. today announced plans for the
construction of a new distribution facility in Plainfield, Ind., a suburb of
Indianapolis. The new 750,000-square-foot facility will create more than 130
additional jobs and expand Epson's capacity to meet growing demand for its vast
array of digital imaging products.
Construction of the state-of-the-art facility --
which will handle warehousing and distribution, a repair depot and sales of
parts and accessories -- is expected to start later this month and is scheduled
for completion on April 1, 2006. All current employees will relocate from the
existing 462,000-square-foot Indianapolis facility to the new location in June
2006.
Epson has committed to adding more than 130 jobs at the new
facility over the next five years, bringing the total to more than 500 jobs at
this new location. The construction represents a significant capital investment
for the company.
"This project is an important economic win for
both Hendricks County and the state of Indiana," said Patricia R. Miller,
Secretary of Commerce and CEO of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
"We hope this is a trend many other companies in the state will
follow."
When Epson realized that expansion to accommodate its
business growth was not possible at its current location in Indianapolis, the
company decided to look for a new location that would be convenient for current
employees, was conducive to attracting future employees and offered a good
transportation infrastructure. Epson finalized the construction site
negotiations and plans with assistance from Grubb & Ellis Company, the
Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership, the Town of Plainfield, the
State of Indiana, the not-for-profit Indiana Economic Development Corporation
(IEDC), The Indy Partnership, and Panattoni Development Company, LLC. Epson is
represented by Colliers Turley Martin Tucker (CTMT) and Grubb & Ellis
Company.
"Because of the growth in our business, we have outgrown
our current facility, so we are thrilled to be able to move forward with
construction of the new facility," said John Lang, president and CEO, Epson.
"The expansion will enable more efficiencies in our business operations while
contributing to the economic viability of Indianapolis. The Town of Plainfield
and State of Indiana were very accommodating, and we look forward to future
successes in the new facility."
"We are ecstatic about Epson's
decisions to locate in Plainfield," said Robin Brandgard, president of the
Plainfield Town Council. "As a world class company, Epson epitomizes the type of
investment Plainfield wants to attract to the community, and we are pleased to
welcome Epson as our newest corporate citizen."
