Press Release: U.S. Network Camera Share Set To Surpass Analog Camera Share in 2009, IDC Reveals

Sept. 20, 2005--In 2009, network camera share will be set to surpass analog camera share in the U.S., a new IDC study reveals. While network camera shipments will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 82.8% from 2004 to 2009, analog camera shipments will decline an average of 4.4%.

"While network cameras usage will grow within both existing infrastructures and in new environments, most opportunity lies in new installations," said Chris Chute, senior analyst, Worldwide Digital Imaging Solutions and Services. "Vendors are already penetrating new verticals."
Among key findings of IDC's Network Camera Forecast are the following:
-- Surveillance and security will continue to drive the network camera market
-- Adoption of digital solutions will increase rapidly as the prices of network cameras decline and the greater robustness of corporate networks facilitates usage
-- The leaders in the overall surveillance camera market will increasingly push digital solutions.
IDC's new report, U.S. Network Camera 2005-2009, (IDC #33740) provides a high-level view of the U.S. network camera market. It contains 2004 actual unit shipments and total 2005-2009 forecasts. Network cameras are compared and contrasted to CCTV/analog cameras, which are also forecast in this study. This study does not include PC cameras, digital camcorders, or digital still cameras.
