Photo loss hurts Pentax earnings
Pentax, a Japanese maker of cameras and medical
equipment, said Tuesday that its fiscal first-quarter profit fell 42 percent as
a result of losses at its photographic
unit.
Net
income fell to ¥261 million, or $2.32 million, for the three months that
ended June 30, from ¥448 million a year earlier, the company said in a
release to the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Sales rose 9.6 percent to ¥33.8
billion.
