Will Apple Compete in Volume Markets?


The what-if scenarios surrounding Apple's decision to replace its current chip vendor IBM (NYSE: IBM - news) with the market-leading semiconductor maker Intel (Nasdaq: INTC - news) might ultimately have little impact on Apple's computers.

According to several industry experts, Apple is in a catch-22. The company's niche as a provider of high-quality proprietary systems practically insures that it will not see significantly rising demand.
